Dear Reader

Hello Readers,

My name is Glenn Serl and I'm back in school after nearly a 26 years absence. I reluctantly returned after an on the job injury. The company was self insured and would pay for the schooling and pay me while I was going to school, hard to turn down that offer. I am taking classes related to small businesses. My son and I have a small Hobbytown USA business in Bellingham, Wa. I plan to help out at the store after I finish my retraining. The Business Math class i took last quarter helped me with the different ways of ordering, figuring the cost to sale price calculations and how to do the payroll accounting.

My English 97E class is helping me with my writing, punctuation and grammar, with the different Journals and Major Writing Assignments I have steadily improved and have been able to keep my head above water. My other classes, computer literacy and principles of management round out my 15 credit requirement for the quarter.

I was born in Chehalis, Wa., a long time ago, in 1939 and lived in Onalaska, Wa. where my dad had a service station during the depression. We lived across the street behind the gas station in a three bedroom house with my other brothers, five of them at the time until 1944. That year dad moved the family to Eckly, Colorado where he bought a meat market store and we lived in the back of the store. We lived in Colorado until 1951 when we moved back to Washington state and settled on forty acres on the Yakima Indian Reservation. I completed me schooling at White Swan high school at White Swan , Washington in 1958 and enlisted in the Navy after graduation. Stayed with the Navy for 22 years retiring in 1980. I went to work for Boeing in 1981 and retired from there in 2006 after twenty-six years and with my injury still pending closure I was offered retraining school and here I am. I am getting close to completing my required classes and I am looking forward to helping my son with our business.

I live in Lake Stevens, Wa. on a small ranch of 5.86 acres. We, my wife of 52 years and I, have three horses, two dogs and many birds, squirrels, deer, and other wildlife on the property. We have a small orchard on the front of the property with several apple, plum, pear, cherry, and Asian pear trees as well as some grapes and nut trees walnut and hazel nut. The deer hang out here when the apples start ripening. Last year we had a four point hanging around but the missus wouldn't let me get it. We have two sons married with kids the oldest has two daughters, the youngest has four daughters and one son. We have two great-granddaughters with more on the way. Man do I feel old, must be because I am.

It takes some doing to get my chores done in the morning before I cam leave for class. I have to muck the stalls and paddocks, fill the water troughs, feed the horses and birds before I leave for class at about 7am each morning and arrive at about 7:20-7:25 am. I have a cup of coffee and something for breakfast and head for my first class of the day and finish my last class at 2:15 pm. Then it back home to start the chores again then do my homework with luck getting it all done before bed time.

I'm finally in!
